Legal Transcription Services

A deposition isn't useful until someone can search it. Magellan transcribes depositions, hearings, interviews and recorded statements into accurate, speaker-labelled transcripts in your firm's format. We run it as a managed service, with a quality review on every file and turnaround committed up front.

A recording nobody has transcribed is evidence nobody can use

Recorded testimony piles up fastest when a case is busiest. Depositions, hearing audio, client interviews and recorded calls all have to be read, searched and quoted, and none of that can happen until the words are on the page.

So the work goes to whoever is free: a paralegal with headphones, or an associate scrubbing through the recording for the one answer they need. It is slow and expensive, and it is how a misheard name or a dropped "not" ends up quoted in a motion.

Transcription doesn't need legal judgment. It needs a trained ear, a consistent format and a second person checking the work. That is an operation, not something to fit into a spare hour. Magellan has supported professional-services clients since 2005.

What We Transcribe

Your Format, Your Conventions

A transcript is only useful in the form your firm already works in. We work to your specification: verbatim or clean verbatim, speaker labels as you name them, timestamps at the interval you set, and page and line numbering your attorneys can cite. Transcripts come back in your template, so they drop straight into the matter file.

Send us a sample transcript and your style notes at the start, and give feedback on the first few files. After that, the corrections stop repeating.

A Managed Service, Run to Your Deadlines

Transcription is an operation we run, not a person you manage. Magellan supplies the transcriptionists, the trainers and the quality review, and commits to turnaround you can plan a deposition schedule around. You supply the recordings, the format and the deadline.

Why Firms Outsource Legal Transcription

Paralegals back on the case

Hours spent typing from a recording are hours not spent on the matter the recording is about.

Cost Reduction

Philippine delivery runs 40–60% below onshore staffing

A transcript you can quote

Every file is reviewed against the audio before it comes back, and passages the reviewer cannot make out are marked, not guessed at.

Consistency across a matter

The tenth deposition in a case comes back in the same format, with the same speaker conventions, as the first.

Turnaround you can plan around

Delivery times are committed in advance instead of depending on who happens to be free.

Transcribed by Us, Relied On by Your Attorneys

Our transcripts are working transcripts, prepared from the recordings you supply for your team to review and use. They are not certified transcripts or official records. Where a court or a rule requires a certified transcript from a court reporter, that requirement stays with the reporter. Your attorneys decide what the testimony means, what to quote, and what to file.

Compliance and Data Security, Built In

Transcription means hearing everything: the testimony, the client's own account, and the parts of a recording that never make it into a filing. Every Magellan staff member signs a confidentiality agreement enforceable under Philippine law before assignment, and access is limited to the team working your firm. Recordings and transcripts move through the secure transfer method agreed at onboarding, not email. Magellan operates under ISO 27001, PCI-DSS, and GDPR compliance.

Certified Standards

Magellan holds ISO 27001, PCI-DSS, and GDPR compliance — the recognized benchmarks for information security and data protection. See our certifications.

Controlled Data Access icon
Controlled Data Access

Network and IT infrastructure sits in secured, IT-only locations. Workstations and servers are password-protected across access levels, and physical data-entry points are disabled to prevent unauthorized transfer.

Enforceable Confidentiality

Every employee signs a confidentiality agreement before job assignment — subject to Philippine law and prosecutable on breach. Access to your data is limited to the team working your account.

Continuity You Can Count On icon
Continuity You Can Count On

Continuous data backup with off-site copies, a co-location plan with a backup center outside a 10-mile radius, and power-blackout protection — so work on your matters doesn't stop when circumstances change.

Frequently Asked Questions

Are your transcripts certified for court use?
No. We produce working transcripts from recordings you supply, for your attorneys to review and use. Where a certified transcript from a court reporter is required, that requirement stays with the reporter.
Do you transcribe attorney dictation?
Yes, but that is part of our legal document and word processing service, where dictation is turned into a finished, formatted document. This page covers recorded proceedings and evidence: depositions, hearings, interviews and statements with more than one speaker.
What happens when the audio is poor?
We transcribe what can be heard and mark what cannot, with a timestamp, as [inaudible 00:14:32]. We do not guess. Marked passages come back flagged so your team can go straight to that point in the recording.
Verbatim or clean verbatim?
Either. Full verbatim keeps every false start, filler and interruption, which matters for testimony and statements. Clean verbatim removes them for readability. The choice is set per matter in your specification.
What's the turnaround?
Turnaround is committed up front and depends on recording length, audio quality, the number of speakers and your volume. It is part of the service agreement, not quoted file by file.
Can you work to Australian and UK conventions?
Yes. We transcribe to your spelling, terminology and format conventions, including Australian and UK courts' terms of address and the transcript layout your firm uses.
How fast can a legal program launch?
Most programs go live in 4–6 weeks: requirements, recruitment, training, incubation, then launch — the same five-step onboarding shown above.
Do your staff have legal backgrounds?
Yes. We recruit for legal education and experience for LPO roles, and train to your firm's terminology, templates, and procedures during onboarding.
